I applied to various schools to pursue a Ph.D. in Computer Science. My target schools ranged from MIT (website: http://web.mit.edu) to University of California at San Diego (website: http://www.ucsd.edu). It is interesting to see how diverse the admission schedules are: University of Wisconsin at Madison (website: http://www.wisc.edu) demands applications to be mailed in no later than December 15th, while Rice University (website: http://www.rice.edu) accepts applications till February 1st. But enough about deadlines and paperwork. I was accepted by several schools, and I was invited to visit some of them. The whole visit process is another story: visits are almost recruitment visits. Each schools tries to present its best and brightest, just to get you, an aspiring Ph.D. student, to sign up 5 years of your life with them. Here are the results:
Quite a mixture. My choice: not yet made (as of April 5th, 1999). Well, since my latest update (see above), I have made my choice, moved from California, and now my e-mail address ends in @cs.wisc.edu. Guess where I went!? |
